About the business

Weddings, waz mahfils, pujas, sports events and elections all need a microphone and lights. The economics are pure asset rental: buy the kit once, hire it out many times, and the only question that matters is how many days a year it goes out. On 3 February 2026 mic-hire shops in Bhermara, Kushtia quoted a one-day hire at Tk 1,200 including a CNG, easy-bike or auto-rickshaw, of which Tk 700 is the vehicle and Tk 500 the mic itself, so Tk 500 a day reaches the equipment owner. The equipment is not cheap. In Gulistan's Stadium Market on 3 November 2023 two pairs of sound boxes cost Tk 100,000-120,000, a 1,000-watt PA amplifier Tk 75,000-80,000 and a dual-hand wireless microphone Tk 12,000-14,000. Recovering that takes a lot of hire-days. The rules have just tightened. On 25 November 2025 the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change issued the Noise Pollution (Control) Rules 2025: no loudspeaker, microphone or amplifier may be used in a public place without the authority's written permission, social events are capped at 90 decibels and must finish by 9pm, and a police officer of traffic sergeant rank or above can fine on the spot. Election work is not exempt either: under the code of conduct, campaign mics may run only between 2pm and 8pm, with at most three loudspeakers per rally and 60 decibels maximum. Anyone entering this trade has to plan for these rules alongside the equipment maths.

How the work is done

1. 1Count how many events your area actually holds in a year: weddings, waz mahfils, pujas, sports, school functions. That count decides whether the kit will ever pay for itself.
2. 2Check the nearby community centres and wedding halls for whether they already have their own sound system. Where they do, the wedding work in that area will not come to you.
3. 3Take the trade licence from the city corporation, municipality or union parishad, and have sound system rental written on it as the trade.
4. 4Read the Noise Pollution (Control) Rules 2025. Written permission is needed to use a mic in a public place; find out from the local administration and the Department of Environment office which desk issues it.
5. 5Start small: one pair of boxes, one amplifier, two wired mics and a few par lights. Do not buy the full rig in one go; first see how much it actually goes out.
6. 6Compare prices in several places before buying, including Gulistan's Stadium Market, which supplies mics and sound systems to the whole country.
7. 7Sort out transport. Without your own van or auto you pay vehicle hire on every job - Tk 700 a day in Bhermara, which eats more than half the fee.
8. 8Get to know the local decorators, community centres, mahfil committees and caterers. Most work arrives through their hands, not from customers directly.
9. 9Fix the booking in writing: how many hours, how many boxes, how many mics, who supplies power and who pays if something breaks. Kit gets damaged at events routinely.
10. 10Prepare separately for the winter season and the run-up to an election: most of the year's income comes in those few months, and that is when kit runs short.
11. 11Write down the date and fee of every job. At year end the total number of hire-days is the one number that tells you whether the kit is paying for itself.
