Abdul Majid's Date Palm Garden

Abdul Majid of Bilkrishnapur Dhopapara village in Raninagar upazila, Naogaon, went to Saudi Arabia in 2000 and worked 20 years as a cleaner in an office before returning in 2020. The office had a date garden, where he helped the workers tend the trees in his spare time, and he decided to plant his own date garden back home. He brought 110 Ajwa and Mariam date seeds; 79 seedlings came up, which he planted on 30 decimals of land. Just three and a half years later, last season, the trees bore dates. He has spent over Tk 1 lakh on the garden so far and has sold about Tk 40,000 worth of seedlings. He hopes that once the trees are seven years old the garden will earn about half a crore taka a year.
