About
Abdullah Gazi of Burigoalini village in Shyamnagar upazila, Satkhira, farms soft-shell crabs. Last season he invested Tk 2.5 lakh and sold about Tk 4 lakh of crabs, a profit of about Tk 1.5 lakh in five months after costs. In this method hard-shell crabs are bought and kept in plastic boxes of salt water and fed; each box must be checked every three hours so the crab can be taken out while still soft after it moults. Soft-shell crabs are exported, and about 2,000 people in Shyamnagar are in this trade.
