About
Abdur Rahman (38), son of farmer Abdur Rahim of Kapaldara village in Nawabganj upazila, Dinajpur, first came across rambutan while living in Malaysia. The seeds he brought home failed to sprout; later, after watching YouTube, he brought seedlings from a village in Faridpur Sadar upazila in July 2020 and planted 10 trees on land next to his home. In 2024 one tree bore a little fruit; in 2025 all the trees fruited heavily, about 60-70 kg per tree. Visitors who come to see the orchard buy rambutan at Tk 1,000 per kg; people come from the district and from Rangpur, Gaibandha, Joypurhat and Bogura. He helps interested people with information on everything from sourcing seedlings to growing the fruit. The horticulture department supports him.
