About
Abiar Gazi, a farmer of Amadi village in Koyra upazila, Khulna, sowed watermelon on 30 bighas in the 2025 season. He says watermelon paid very well the year before, with some farmers making more than Tk 1 lakh profit a bigha, but this year cultivation costs and the prices of fertiliser and seed are all higher. In Koyra land used to lie fallow after the aman rice harvest; now salt-tolerant watermelon is grown on it, costing Tk 20,000–25,000 a bigha and ready in about two and a half months.
