Anisur Rahman, a farmer in Sherpur Sadar upazila, grew early-variety yardlong beans on 50 decimals at a cost of Tk 20,000. By the time of the report he had sold about Tk 40,000 worth, made a Tk 20,000 profit, and hoped to make at least Tk 1 lakh more. He does not need to take the beans to market: wholesale buyers come to his home and pay Tk 50 a kg. Local women farm workers tend the field, weed it and pick the beans for a wage of Tk 250 a day.
