Farmer Badal Patwari (50) of Nedamdi village, inside the Meghna-Dhanagoda irrigation project embankment in Matlab North upazila, Chandpur, planted over fifty jackfruit trees on 32 decimals of high land beside the road. The trees have fruited for five years; the previous year he earned about Tk 50,000 from jackfruit, and this year over 400 fruits set, with about Tk 30,000 expected. Jackfruit brings him an extra Tk 30,000–50,000 a year. Jackfruit from the embankment area goes to Cumilla, Narayanganj, Chandpur and Dhaka, selling at Tk 50–200 each depending on size.
