About
Salma Khatun runs a cattle farm in Fatepur village, Nachol. She earned a philosophy degree at Chapai Nawabganj College and a master's at Rajshahi College in 2016, then worked for a private company until she lost the job during Covid. She started the farm with a single cow. She later took a Tk 10 lakh loan from the local Sonali Bank branch and stocked 10 cattle; within two years the herd, with calves, reached 20. The farm sits on six kathas of land. In 2022 she brought 10 cattle to the Bibirhat cattle market in Chattogram for the first time and sold them all. After a loss in 2023 she started again with a Tk 5 lakh loan from United Commercial Bank. For Eid-ul-Azha 2024 she brought 14 cattle to the Chattogram market. 'I always keep courage in my heart,' she says. 'I am not afraid of anything.'
