About
Farmer Abdus Sattar's (50) field of chemical-free early bangi (musk melon) in Oicharchar village, Balarampur union, Titas upazila, Cumilla. He went to Saudi Arabia at 25, came home in 2011 and started a cattle farm, but the cows died of disease and he fell about Tk 20 lakh into debt. Then a Tk 10 packet of bangi seeds showed him a new way: from 7 decimals he sold Tk 40,000 of melons. He farms with cow dung and organic methods and has taken several trainings on them. In 2025, in the first round, he grew bangi on 15 decimals of his own land for about Tk 2,500 and has sold Tk 60,000 worth, hoping for about Tk 10,000 more; a second 15 decimals is planted. Sometimes he takes them to market himself and they sell on the way; wholesalers also come to the field and buy at Tk 50 less per melon than retail. Other farmers in the village have followed him into bangi. He won the district's best farmer award in 2022 and 2023, and his wife Nargis Akter supports him throughout.
