About
Md. Delwar Hossain, son of Azammel Haque of Bodhkhana village in Jhikargacha upazila, Jashore, is a farmer trained in safe vegetable and fruit production. This season he grew an early crop of the high-yielding Bahubali winter tomato on one bigha; he planted in Ashwin and spent about Tk 50,000 including trellises. He used no chemical fertiliser and sprays organic pesticide. Full picking began at 90 days, with 12-15 maunds picked every two days. In 28 days he sold Tk 64,000 of tomatoes; picking will continue for three more months and he expects at least Tk 150,000 profit. Being chemical-free, the tomatoes taste good and fetch higher demand and prices.
