About
Md. Delwar Hossain, a young returnee migrant from Juginda village in Gangni upazila, Meherpur, has succeeded in growing grapes after learning from Facebook and YouTube. He was charmed when he first saw grapes growing at a relative's house; he collected 100 grape cuttings, and though 30 failed, he planted the other 70 on 10 kathas beside his home to build a garden. At first no one helped and many mocked him; now the vines hang with bunches of grapes. The garden cost about Tk 1.5 lakh to set up; for the 2025 season he expected to sell Tk 5 to 6 lakh worth of grapes and plans to expand if prices are good. People come from different areas to see the garden, and many take saplings from him. His father Jalal Uddin Khan helps him; the upazila agriculture office advises him regularly, and Bayer Crop Science has also offered support.
