About
Dolly Biswas of Ramanander Ank village in Rajihar union, Agailjhara upazila, makes vermicompost (earthworm compost) at home from cow dung and earthworms. Once struggling with poverty, she built a demonstration shed with financial help from Caritas's 'Dharitri Project' and began producing and marketing compost. She started with three rings and now has 13. The compost needs 15-day-old cow dung; the worms eat it and their castings become the fertiliser. She sells both retail and wholesale and runs her household on the income. Local farmers use this compost, cheaper than chemical fertiliser, in their fields and vegetable gardens.
