Green Care Nursery is the fruit-sapling nursery of Mranuching Marma of Kanungo Para, Panchari Sadar, Khagrachhari, who is head teacher of a private primary school. In mid-2020, with schools shut by Covid, she was not being paid; when she went to buy saplings for a mango orchard and found them too expensive, she began raising her own from mango stones collected from neighbours and acquaintances, and sold about Tk 12,000 worth of saplings that same year. She later learned grafting by watching her husband Uching Marma, also a teacher, and by experimenting herself. Her one-acre nursery on a hillside about a kilometre from home now holds some 50,000 saplings: besides mango there are litchi, guava, lotkon and year-round jackfruit saplings of various varieties, and she also has a banana garden. She tends it with three workers, before and after school and all day on holidays. Mango saplings sell for Tk 40 to 300 depending on variety; she earns about Tk 20 lakh a year and expects Tk 20–25 lakh in sapling sales this year. Many people contact her after seeing photos on her Facebook page, buyers come from across the district, and many also seek her advice on nurseries and mango growing.
