Green Leaf Agro Farm is a pomegranate orchard right beside the road in Raniganj Belbari village, Dinajpur Sadar. Two friends, Nadim Hossain (35) and Monirujjaman Chowdhury (36), trained in pomegranate growing at a farm in Mumbai, India, brought seedlings back and planted the orchard four years ago. About 4 acres hold 1,100 pomegranate trees; four years on, each tree is now bearing 20 to 60 fruits. Sales were to begin at the end of August, and they expected to sell at least Tk 13-14 lakh worth this year, with wholesale buyers already showing interest. They claim it is the largest pomegranate orchard in the country, and a horticulture official also said there is no other orchard this big in Bangladesh. People come every day to see the orchard and many seek advice on growing the fruit; the owners plan to expand it.
