About
Latkan grower Hamidullah of Bausa village near the Garo hills border in Sherpur brought 120 saplings from Ojilab village in Narsingdi in 2007 and planted them on shady fallow land behind his house. The first 35 trees fruited in 2012 and all have borne since 2016, when he began selling to wholesalers. In 2023 he sold the garden's crop for Tk 1.2 lakh. Latkan ripens from July to September; several more gardens, large and small, have since sprung up in the village.
