About
Lakshmi Narayan Chakma, a farmer in Naniarchar, Rangamati, grows the wild hill fruit known as blood fruit (roktofol) commercially. He used to grow rice, pomelo and other fruit; 12–15 years ago, seeing demand while selling fruit gathered in the forest, he brought vines from the forest and planted them on his own land. His garden now has about 15 vines and yields 300–400 kg a year. He sells at Tk 400–500 a kg early in the season and Tk 300 towards the end. He says the crop needs little cost or care and fetches a good price. The season runs from late April to June.
