About
Limon Sarkar (20), son of Sohrab Ali of Chorkura village in Kamarkhand upazila, Sirajganj, is a class-twelve student at Government Haji Korop Ali Memorial College. He began by rearing exotic pet birds with Tk 1,200 from his stipend, then kept quail, which he sold off because the profit was low. Later he took Tk 2 lakh from his parents to buy a motorcycle and instead used it to start a chicken farm. At the time of the report the farm had 800 Tiger-breed and 1,200 Sonali chickens; he expected their sale to bring in about Tk 4.5 lakh with a profit of about Tk 2.5 lakh. Limon says the farm earns him Tk 45,000–50,000 a month. The upazila livestock office supports farmers, including with veterinary care.
