About
Farmer Main Uddin of South Char Darbesh, Sonagazi upazila, Feni, earned Tk 11 lakh from watermelons grown on 9 acres the previous year; for the 2023 season he expanded to 15 acres. He says watermelon pays very well when prices hold, and no land in the area is left empty. The season starts at the end of November and fruit is picked within two and a half months. Sonagazi watermelons go to Feni town and to wholesale markets in Chattogram's Fruit Mandi, Firingi Bazar, Chakaria, Patiya and Satkania. The upazila targeted 570 hectares of watermelon that season.
