Alonkarkathi village in Swarupkathi Sadar union of Nesarabad upazila, Pirojpur, is known as the nursery village. Nursery trader Mainuddin Sikder Sujon here has been in the nursery trade for 20 years. He once worked in other people's nurseries; now he has set up his own on land he sharecrops from others. His nursery has 15-20 kinds of flower, fruit and timber saplings. November to March is the peak flower season, and he hopes to sell more than Tk 3 lakh of flowers and saplings in those five months. Locals and people from far away come to the village to see the nurseries and buy flower and fruit saplings, both retail and wholesale.
