About
Milon Fakir, a 'model bitter gourd grower' of Ballabhdi in Saltha Upazila, Faridpur, began growing bitter gourd on 33 decimals (one bigha) 8-10 years ago. A good profit in the first year led him to expand every year, and in 2025 he grew bitter gourd on about six acres. He picks 20-25 maunds a day on average and sells wholesale at Tk 80-100 a kg; traders take it on to several nearby upazilas. He says bitter gourd brought success just as losses on other crops had him close to quitting farming. His brother Sakib Al Hasan farms with him alongside his studies; many farmers have taken up bitter gourd after seeing their success, and many have succeeded with their help.
