Mizanur Rahman Tuku, of Hayatpur village in the Rajganj area of Monirampur upazila, Jashore, was the first to grow vegetables with plastic mulching in Hayatpur's fields, six years before the report. In 2026 he grew vegetables on four bighas (locally 48 decimals to the bigha), two and a half of them on mulched beds with khira cucumber and aubergine. The NGO Nabolok Parishad encouraged him to take up the method. At first people thought it a bother, but after seeing his results almost every farmer in the area now uses mulching. In Srabon, when other fields lie nearly bare, the fields of Hayatpur and Mobarakpur are full of aubergine, bitter gourd, khira, pointed gourd and spiny gourd.
