About
Mizanur, a farmer from Srihotto village in Shalikha upazila of Magura, has become self-reliant by growing seedless kagoji lemons. In early 2019 he planted 250 grafted seedless lemon saplings on two bighas (66 decimals); saplings, land preparation, irrigation and fertiliser cost about Tk 1 lakh in the first year. The trees began fruiting the next year, and the year after that he sold about Tk 1 lakh worth of lemons per bigha. In the 2022 report he said he sells about Tk 10,000 worth of lemons a week, earning about Tk 40,000 a month and Tk 2.5 to 3 lakh a year. Because of high yield, plenty of juice and strong demand, these lemons are marketed from Shalikha to Dhaka and other parts of the country, and many in the area are keen to grow them after seeing his success.
