About
Harun Mia's tea stall sits on the veranda of someone else's rice hotel in the Moddho Bazar area of Gouripur town, Mymensingh. The son of Abdul Jabbar, a vegetable seller from Satisha village, Harun left school after primary because of poverty and went to work at a tea stall; running the stall from morning to late night and studying at night, he passed his SSC through Bangladesh Open University in 2022 at the age of 24 and is now studying for his HSC. He became known for honouring his customers, celebrating Tea Day every year and announcing half-price tea for freedom fighters. On 7 May 2023 he started 'Harun Pathagar', a library kept in a drawer of the stall, with 100 books bought with his own money; readers sit at a table to read or fill in a form to borrow books and return them. He hopes one day to give the library its own room.
