About
At Koyerdara Christianpara in Rajshahi, Sumi Murmu, a woman of the Mahali community, makes nakshi kantha with more than a hundred women; she founded the organisation Nari O Shishukalyan Sangstha. She gives the women a share of the income from selling the kanthas made there. They used to stitch the flowers and patterns handed down over generations; now they also draw on designs found online and make nakshi kantha in 300 designs. Their kanthas sell for Tk 800 to Tk 8,000.
