Rabeya Begum of the Rudreshwar area in Kakina union, Kaliganj upazila of Lalmonirhat, has grown purple and yellow cauliflower out of interest; this is the first year coloured cauliflower is being grown in the area. She says it needs far less fertiliser, irrigation and pesticide than white cauliflower. At the start of the season each coloured cauliflower sold for Tk 60-70, and now sells for Tk 40-50; many are sold straight from the field. People come from far away to see the unusual colours in her field. The upazila agriculture office has given her full support.
