Shahinur Rahman, a farm entrepreneur from Chachra village in Kaliganj upazila, Jhenaidah, has planted three bighas of avocado. He brought the saplings from Thailand in 2019 through an agriculture officer; people laughed at first, but after about five years the trees began to fruit. The first crop was small, but in 2025 every tree was heavy with fruit. Local demand is low, but restaurants in Dhaka and Chattogram want them; avocados sell for Tk 500-600 a kg in the local market and about Tk 800 a kg to traders in Dhaka and Chattogram.
