About
Tara Mia, a farmer of Chikna Monohor village in Trishal upazila, Mymensingh, grows betel-leaf (boroj) and various vegetables, and this season planted local beans on 30 decimals of sloping fallow land beside his pond. The beans on bamboo-and-string trellises yielded well: by the time of the report he had sold Tk 50,000-60,000 worth and hoped to sell more than Tk 3 lakh worth this season. To get a fair price he sells his own produce himself, at the nearby market almost every day of the year and once a week at the upazila headquarters market. He farms from his own experience and had not received help from the agriculture office before. The sub-assistant plant protection officer said beans are hardly grown commercially in Trishal; after hearing of the field, the local sub-assistant agriculture officer visited and said he would bring him under training and other support.
