Tarif Hasan, a businessman from West Baratia village, Pakuria union, Sherpur Sadar, decided to become an agri-entrepreneur and, with help from the Sadar upazila agriculture office, began growing ginger in sacks on fallow land beside his house. He has 4,000 sacks on one bigha, at a cost of about Tk 1.5 lakh, and expects to earn more than Tk 3 lakh from them. The agriculture office says sack ginger needs no extra care, pesticide or irrigation and suits shady or fallow land.
