Tasfia Afroz's Herbal Powder Venture

About

Tasfia Afroz (Trinoy), from Jhikargacha in Jashore, started her business in 2020 when Covid shut down her tuition and part-time work. Out of the Tk 155 her mother had for the household shopping she took Tk 100, bought 100 roses and made her first rose-petal powder; today she buys thousands of roses, dries them and grinds them. Besides rose petals she makes and sells powders of neem leaves, moringa leaves, orange peel, amla, red lentils, multani mati, potato, beetroot and more. She first learned from YouTube and later took some training at home; she became known through the entrepreneurs' Facebook group Women and e-Commerce Trust (WE) and sends orders by courier. Her mother Monowara Begum helps by buying roses and grinding them. At first she collected leaves from neighbouring homes; now she buys them, so many people in the village earn a monthly income selling leaves. In March 2023, through a Commerce Ministry project, she trained at Dr. YSR Horticultural University in Andhra Pradesh, India, in making soap, rose water, sunscreen, incense sticks, flower oil, face packs and other products from flowers, and she began working as a trainer for other entrepreneurs in Jashore and Jhenaidah.
