Billal Hossain of Hujurikanda village, Nokla, Sherpur, once worked as a hotel boy in Cox's Bazar for Tk 10,000 a month. While there he cooked dishes from YouTube recipes, and in late 2023 he opened the Facebook page 'Thoughts of Billal', posting videos of his cooking, his life and human stories. His popularity grew once he began rhyming short reels; within months his followers rose from 300,000 to nearly 3 million. In August 2024 he quit the hotel job to make content full time. He earns from Facebook based on views: Tk 8 lakh in August 2024, Tk 15.17 lakh in December and Tk 16 lakh in January 2025. Rakibul Hasan helps him make the videos for Tk 50,000 a month. The page tells the stories of people in need, and he passes on help sent by followers. He started with a smartphone bought with Tk 18,500 his mother raised by selling a calf.
