Tonni Akter (30), a housewife from Ganapara village at Kashipur Chowmatha on the edge of Barishal city, sells chitoi pitha every afternoon on the footpath in front of a pharmacy at Chowmatha bazaar. Her mother sits beside her selling bhapa pitha. She says they sell Tk 700-800 worth of pitha a day. They began selling when winter set in in 2025, a month before the report. Her husband Sumon Howlader sells low-priced clothes from a van in the same bazaar.
