About
Yusuf Nabi, a farmer in Chowdhurypara, Sitakunda municipality, Chattogram, grows summer Rupban beans on 30 decimals beside the railway line. Seed, fertiliser, bamboo stakes, pesticide and labour cost about Tk 70,000. He has been selling for about three months; early on beans fetched up to Tk 250 a kg wholesale, now Tk 120–150. So far he has sold about Tk 2.2 lakh of beans and expects at least Tk 1 lakh more over the next month and a half. Heavy rain made flowers drop and cut the yield somewhat, he says.
