What workedA clothing seller in Dhaka, in a Prothom Alo report

50,000 taka online, and the first batch of kurtis gone in 26 days

A kurti label started on Facebook with 50,000 taka sold out its first batch in 26 days, and after roughly a decade online opened a shop at Mirpur 11.5 on 11 May 2025.

Unable to find well-stitched kurtis for herself, this Dhaka entrepreneur put 50,000 taka into making them. She began on Facebook, selling kurtis, shirts, panjabis, sarees and nakshi-kantha embroidered bags. The first batch of kurtis sold out within 26 days, which answered the question of whether the product would sell before any rent was at risk. She buys the fabric in and has the rest of the work done locally. After roughly a decade online she opened a physical outlet at Mirpur 11.5 on 11 May 2025, because customers wanted to handle the clothes before buying. Current revenue and staff numbers are not given in the report.

Lessons

  1. 1.Starting online tests whether the product sells before a single taka of rent is committed
  2. 2.Clothing buyers eventually want to touch the item, which is why the shop comes later, not first
