A decade working in the trade, own pest control firm in 2019; Tk 2,000 for cockroaches, Tk 3,500 for termites

A 2022 report looked inside Dhaka's pest control business. An entrepreneur with a master's degree in philosophy worked in the industry for about a decade before opening his own company, Noha Pest Control Service, in 2019. Over those ten years he attended several trainings on pest control and the technical application of pesticides. In his words, with a master's in philosophy he sometimes cannot believe he cleans termites and cockroaches. According to the report, the capital has more than 50 such pest control companies, usually treating bedbugs, termites, cockroaches, rodents and ants. For flats under 2,000 sq ft they charge Tk 2,000 for cockroaches or ants, Tk 2,500 for bedbugs, Tk 3,000 for rodents and Tk 3,500 for termites; larger spaces are priced per square foot. But he says pest control and prevention is highly neglected in the country. Termite prevention should be done before construction, since termites can cut a building's life by about 20%, yet this is not practised in Bangladesh. He adds that trainings teach that mosquito fogging should be done where no people are around, yet here it is sprayed in public places. The report gives no figures on his staff, costs or income.
