Two contracts cancelled in the shutdown, and six months of standing gone
A Fiverr Top Rated Seller could not answer more than 20 client messages during the shutdown; two contracts were cancelled, the account was downgraded for six months, and he put the damage at 400,000 taka.
This freelancer had reached Fiverr's Top Rated Seller level and lost it during the July 2024 internet shutdown in Bangladesh. Unable to get online, he could not answer more than 20 client messages, and two running contracts were cancelled. Those two cancellations cost him the Top Rated Seller badge and downgraded his account for six months. He put the financial damage at 400,000 taka. On a marketplace, being slow to reply is itself penalised, so simply being unreachable was enough to do the harm. His district, the service he sells, his starting capital and his normal monthly income are not stated, and the report does not say he stopped freelancing.
Lessons
- 1.On a marketplace the ranking is the asset: a few days offline caused two cancellations, which cost six months of standing
- 2.Being unreachable is itself penalised: the 20-plus unanswered messages hurt as much as the lost contracts
