From pandemic car disinfection to car wash: nearly 600 clients a month in one Gulshan car park
Naspro began in mid-2020 disinfecting cars in the Unimart Gulshan 2 car park and moved into car washing and detailing as that demand faded. With 15 staff it now serves nearly 600 clients a month, but space limits it to four cars at a time.
The founders had earlier opened a restaurant in 2019 and then a catering service. In mid-2020, during the pandemic, he started 'Disinfection BD', disinfecting cars in the car park of Unimart in Gulshan 2. As Covid's impact eased, demand for disinfection faded; the business rebranded as Naspro Auto Detailing and turned to car washing, waxing, polishing and detailing. In 2022 it added mechanical services such as oil, tyre and brake fluid changes. According to the 2023 report, a 25-minute express wash costs Tk 600 and a 75-minute premium interior-and-exterior service Tk 1,400. From two or three cars a week at the start, it now serves nearly 600 clients a month with 15 staff. The main constraint is space: the current site can take only four cars at a time (one in the wash booth, three for dry wash), while demand is higher. The founder wants to expand but is very picky about locations and prefers to scale up on his own rather than through collaborations. The report did not disclose investment or revenue.
Lessons
- 1.When one service's demand fades, the same site, staff and customers can be shifted to a related service.
- 2.In car washing, the number of bays caps income; choose a site with enough space from the start.
- 3.A shopping-centre car park in an affluent area can bring customers; offer clear packages by time and price.
