Digital printing presses in Patuakhali town saw unprecedented business around a district convention held after 23 years: at least 13 presses ran day and night for 15 straight days printing banners and festoons. By the owners' own reckoning more than 5,000 square feet of banner went through each day, charged at 18 to 20 taka a square foot, with a 5x4 foot banner costing about 360 taka to make. One owner put his press's take at around 5 lakh taka of orders, and the printing association put the district total at roughly half a crore. The pressure was heavy enough that several presses could not deliver on time, some buyers had banners brought in from Barishal or Dhaka, and one owner stopped taking new orders two days early. Ordinary commercial and birthday work was put aside for the fortnight, and demand for wood, nails and stickers rose with the banners - one wood supplier took on two extra hands.
