A six-lakh fit-out, and 20,000 taka of rent every month

Setting up the compose and photocopy shop cost 630,000 taka, with rent of 20,000 a month.

This shopkeeper in Rajshahi started out working unpaid, and later for 800 taka a month, in other people's computer shops. When he moved into larger premises he spent 630,000 taka setting up the computer compose and photocopy business, covering equipment, furniture and fitting out the room. The sales centre and the service centre are now separate rooms, at a combined rent of 20,000 taka a month that has to be earned before anything else. Most of the work is printing, photocopying and filling in forms, so the location and a steady flow of regulars are what the shop rests on.
