Two diagnostic centres in Sreepur shut for operating without approval; three centres fined Tk 13,000 in total

On 27 May 2022 a mobile court led by the Upazila Nirbahi Officer, joined by the upazila health and family planning officer, sat at Mawna Chowrasta in Sreepur upazila, Gazipur. Three private diagnostic facilities were fined Tk 13,000 in total. Two of them, a diagnostic centre and a medical centre, were operating without permission from the proper authority. Each was fined Tk 5,000 and ordered to stay closed from that day. The third centre's registration had expired. It had applied for renewal but kept operating before the renewal came through. Finding too few staff and an unhygienic environment, the court fined it Tk 3,000 and ordered it to renew its registration within three months. The upazila health officer said all unregistered hospitals, clinics and diagnostic centres in Sreepur would be shut within two days, and that legal action would follow if closed facilities reopened. When the manager of one of the closed centres was called, he hung up without answering once he learned he was speaking to a journalist; the other two could not be reached. The fines were small, but the real loss was the shutdown itself: because they lacked approval, the two centres had to stay closed from that same day.
