Farmer Abul Hashem of Gokarna union, Nasirnagar upazila, Brahmanbaria, sharecropped 60 decimals of fallow land from a landowner and grew early summer tomatoes. He spent Tk 55,000 and had sold Tk 3 lakh worth of tomatoes by the time of the report. In haor-ringed Nasirnagar that year about 400 bighas were planted with BARI-8 and Mongolraja tomatoes, selling wholesale from the gardens at Tk 80–110 per kg depending on size and quality. The agriculture department is advising farmers here to become summer-vegetable entrepreneurs.
