About
Al-Amin, a farmer of Mushuddi union in Dhanbari Upazila, Tangail, grows kochu loti (taro stolons) commercially. He says the stolons come within two and a half months of planting and can be sold for seven months in a row. One bigha costs Tk 30,000-35,000 from planting to sale; every week he sells Tk 15,000-20,000 worth of loti at local markets, at Tk 45-50 a kg. He says it needs no pesticide, cattle and goats do not eat taro, and no extra hand is needed to guard it. Dhanbari has 20 hectares under kochu loti, which is sent to different parts of the country.
