About
Amirul Gazi, a beekeeper in Satkhira, keeps 100 bee boxes in mustard fields. He collects honey from the mustard for about four months a year, in the flowering season from December to April, and feeds the bees sugar for the other eight months. Each box yields 30 to 40 kg of honey depending on size; a box costs Tk 6,000-7,000 and earns a profit of about Tk 4,000-5,000. His honey sells at Tk 300-350 a kg. He says beekeeping raises mustard yields and reduces pest attacks.
