About
Teacher couple Ashutosh Biswas and Maya Chowdhury of Madhupur village in Sreepur upazila, Magura, grow China oranges. Ashutosh Biswas teaches ICT at Nakol Sammiloni Degree College and Maya Chowdhury is an assistant teacher at Kachundi Secondary School in Magura Sadar. Three years before the reports they planted 33 decimals with 64 saplings bought from Chuadanga at Tk 200 each; a little fruit came in the second year, and in the third year (2022) nearly every tree carried 40 to 80 kg of oranges. They sell the oranges at the orchard for Tk 100 to 120 per kg. They use organic fertiliser, urea, TSP and potash and spray occasionally, and the upazila agriculture office checks on the orchard regularly. To spread the crop they raised about 2,000 saplings in 2022, selling each for Tk 100 to 150. The deputy commissioner, police superintendent, other officials and ordinary visitors come to see the orchard every day.
