Bhumi Artisan is a fully online business run from the Jalkuri area of Narayanganj that makes and sells clay, bamboo and cane products. During the Covid pandemic, architect Jannatul Ferdous ran a Facebook page called 'Grihokabyo' where she posted photos of how she decorated her home; when she posted planters of her own design, messages asking for prices poured in, and orders for clay, bamboo and cane planters followed. Begun in a tiny living room, the business now has three warehouses in Narayanganj, five permanent staff and 34 artisans working with it directly or indirectly. Its international-style designs on clay tableware and the light weight of its products are what make it popular. Demand rises around Eid, Puja and Pohela Boishakh; at other times it still sells more than Tk 1 lakh of goods a month, and many customers buy its pieces as gifts for foreigners. Jannatul worked for about a year and a half at an architecture firm and invested her whole salary in the business before leaving the job. Some of its products are also available at Friendship Colours of the Chars in Dhanmondi.
