About
Bright Agro is a farm in Latabaria village, Barguna Sadar upazila, owned by Md. Nurul Islam, a retired government officer and freedom fighter. On the advice of his younger brother Md. Kamrul Islam, a deputy project director of the Sustainable Coastal and Marine Fisheries project, he began growing pearls in freshwater mussels alongside fish in 2019 and set up a demonstration farm. He was inspired after seeing pearl culture while posted in Sunamganj, and took advice from Bangladesh Agricultural University in Mymensingh. According to BSS he was the first in Barguna district to succeed with trial pearl culture, which has drawn many others to try it. He helps anyone who wants to start pearl culture with technique and materials, and has taken steps to export pearls from Barguna to Greece.
