About
Bulbuli Begum of Hajipur village in Ikorchali union, Taragonj upazila of Rangpur, married after passing SSC in 2001 and was a homemaker. In early 2010, visiting her sister-in-law in Panbazar village, she learned duck rearing from a local woman; with Tk 50,000 from her husband she built a shed beside the house and bought 500 ducklings for Tk 20,000. They began laying in four months, and in the first year she earned Tk 1.25 lakh from eggs; her husband Abdus Salam then joined her and they bought another thousand ducklings. The farm now has about three thousand ducks, earning up to Tk 75,000 a month from eggs and ducks. Two workers work there. With the income she bought land, built a brick house, raises fish in two ponds and runs a small shop. Many local people come to her for advice, and following her lead many housewives and jobless young men in the union now rear ducks.
