About
Dilip Kumar Roy of Raghunathpur village, Gopalganj Sadar, grew strawberries, tomatoes, cucumbers, gourds, beans and yardlong beans in greenhouses while working in Kuwait from 1999 to 2010. Back home, he has grown strawberries for 12 years; the BADC Gopalganj potato seed cold store gives him a demonstration plot, plants, fertiliser and advice. He planted 10 decimals on 9 November 2022 and has picked fruit since late December; by March 2023 he had sold Tk 50,000 worth and expected Tk 25,000 more. He sold at Tk 1,000 a kg at first and Tk 800 later, and many buyers come to the field to buy. Town fruit sellers say that while Thai strawberries sell at Tk 600, Raghunathpur strawberries fetch Tk 800 for their taste and quality. With a greenhouse he wants to grow strawberries almost all year.
