About
Two friends in their thirties, Dinarul Islam and Jasim Uddin of Sadullapur village in Bongram union, Sadullapur upazila of Gaibandha, went from unemployment to running their own farm. Their floating duck farm sits on one bigha of riverbank beside the Ghaghot bridge on College Road in the upazila town; the ducks forage in the river, so they need less feed. The land is Jasim's and the planning Dinarul's. They borrowed Tk 40,000 and bought a thousand ducklings in early 2021, raising and selling 400 of them. The remaining 600 ducks lay about 500 eggs a day, bringing an average income of Tk 30,000 a month. Wholesalers from neighbouring Sundarganj upazila come to the farm and buy eggs at Tk 13-14 each. They hope to expand with government support.
