About
Ferdauj Howlader, a farmer from Khanjapur village in Gournadi upazila, has farmed since childhood, growing betel leaf, Boro rice and fish. In 2021, keen to grow kul (jujube), he brought 820 improved Kashmiri kul saplings from Bogura and planted them beside his fish enclosure. With good care the trees flowered within 4-5 months. The orchard has Kashmiri kul and apple kul. He had spent over Tk 3 lakh since planting, and from the first year's yield and the demand for grafted saplings he expected a profit after costs. The upazila agriculture office says his success has drawn other farmers to this kul.
