About
Hanif Ali of Joraghata village in Bamondi union, Gangni upazila, Meherpur, tried many businesses before napier grass brought his family out of hardship. He buys standing grass on other people's land; in 2022 he held 45 to 50 bighas of grass fields, and rising demand means he keeps adding more. He buys each bigha of grass for Tk 10,000 to 12,000 and sells it for Tk 20,000 to 25,000. Every day two workers (paid Tk 300 each) cut the grass and he himself takes it by van from village to village, selling it at Tk 10 a bundle; livestock owners place their orders with him a day in advance. He sells Tk 7,000–8,000 worth of grass a day, keeping Tk 2,300 to 2,500 after all costs, about Tk 70,000 a month. Seeing his profits, many landowners in the area now grow the grass.
